We’re always looking for more fermenters! If you’re interested in meeting and live near NP/UH/NH/Hillcrest, let us know!
October 3, 2011 at 10:42 pm #435I’m interested!
January 19, 2012 at 3:41 pm #868I just saw an article today and would really like to join the club. Do you have any upcoming events?
January 21, 2012 at 2:41 pm #890Me too. I’ve made my own: crème fraîche, yogurt, kefir, sauerkraut, hom-toy, ginger-beer. Sharing would be great.
January 28, 2012 at 12:24 am #917Hi I want to start home brewing wine and beer but I don’t have any of the equipment yet. Is anyone in San Diego currently home brewing wine or beer? If so let me know if you would want to make a fermenting club event out of a brewing day because I’d like to see the brewing process and equipment and get some starting tips before I start my own.
Also I want to start a water kefir batch so if anyone has some water kefir grains available let me know about that too.Leslie
lesliefs31@gmail,comApril 4, 2012 at 6:17 pm #1116Hey everyone, just read about you in CityBeat food issue. I have been brewing beer for a little over a year and making my own kombucha for almost as long. I love pickled/fermented products!
Leslie, I would be willing to do a brewing “class” for everyone if there is interest. It is me and my brewing friends mission to get everyone brewing their own beer.
I have more kombucha starters than I know what to do with. I can’t bring myself to get rid of them but I am out of space if anyone wants some for free.
April 6, 2012 at 1:58 pm #1118I’m still interested in watching brewing, do you know of an upcoming day that you or friends will be doing some brewing work like starting a batch or bottling or anything else of the process? We can set a day and try make a small event out of it through this site.
Also I’d like to try making some kombucha so I can take a small amount of the starter you have if still have a lot. Have you ever used some kombucha starter with a beer brew?
Keep me posted on when you’ll be brewing or fermenting anything!
Leslie
lesliefs31@gmail.comApril 16, 2012 at 9:51 pm #1126Hi All,
I just posted a few local events. May 6 is a fermented goods swap in North Park, and June 9 will be our next summer fermentation workshop at Wild Willow Farm.Hope you can make one or more of the events!
April 16, 2012 at 9:53 pm #1127Lesliefs and sdbrewer,
I was just talking with a friend who wants to hold a kombucha-making class at her house in Mission Hills. Would a Thursday evening in early-mid May work for you? sdbrewer we could definitely use some kombucha mothers!
April 21, 2012 at 4:39 am #1128I would go to a kombucha class in May! I could bring some water kefir grains and a batch of the drink to offer another fermented drink to try and trade too.
May 23, 2012 at 12:21 am #1152Sorry for the very late response. I have some kombucha starters that I need to find a home for. I believe there are 4 good size starters to give away. Just let me know if you want some as I don’t have room for them.
June 1, 2012 at 6:09 pm #1238If you still have a kombucha starter available please let me know. I would love to get started making my own kombucha.
Thanks,
Adam (atb147 at gmail.com)July 7, 2012 at 12:07 pm #1329I just joined the site/ newsletter earlier today after re-finding the web address. I live in La Mesa and have just recently started my 1st home brew of Kombucha. (Unfortunately I couldn’t find a local ‘mother Scoby’ so I bought 1 online.) I would be interested in learning water kefir or other ‘easy’/ low cost to start fermenting ideas. I’ve recently taken quite an interest to fermenting (mainly Kombucha knoledge only so far) and would be interested in learning other methods and eventually when my KT is ready trading w/ others.
Thanks. July 31, 2012 at 5:06 pm #1380Quinn, I also live in La Mesa & would like to start making Kombucha. I’ve been learning about it & now it’s time to make it
SDBrewer, I’m not sure if you still have any kombucha starter available, but if you do, I’d love to start a batch of Kokmbucha.
Thanks,
Brook (brookacash at gmail.com)July 31, 2012 at 6:20 pm #1382Brook,
I am still making Kombucha. (bottled some about an hr. ago actually) as far as a starter… Not sure if what I’ve developed so far would be an accurate description yet of a ‘starter’ set up. I have a continuous brew I’ve started about 10 days ago, but before that have simply been making it by the gallon size and can’t keep up w/ the demand from myself, my wife and neighbors. Lol.
Each batch I’ve been making produces a SCOBY, but I’m still trying to get 1 to full size (as is the mother I assist them w/.) if your truly looking to start, unfortunately until I can get a bigger more mature 1, my best suggestion would be check Craig’s List (My brother lives in Chula Vista & said he saw some one giving some away in Craig’s listings) or, as I unfortunately had to do, buy one.
I utilized Kombucha Kamp (name same on FB and .com) Hannah Crumb (woman behind it all based out of Hollwood/ Beverly Hills area I believe) is VERY helpfull and so is the FB Group page she hosts. Sorry I can’t be of more help yet, butt hope the links help.
